Terzopoulos is known for the intense, physical quality of his approach to theatre. He has worked as assistant director at the Berliner Ensemble theatre company (1972–1976), and served as Director of the Drama School of the National Theatre of Northern Greece (1981–1983). In 1985, he founded Attis Theatre group in Delphi, Greece. From 1985 to 1988 he was the artistic director of the International Meeting of Ancient Drama in Delphi, which hosted renowned theatre artists. He has been a founding member of the International Institute of Mediterranean Theatre since 1990, President of the International Institute of Mediterranean Theatre in Greece since 1991, and Chairman of the International Committee of Theatre Olympics since 1993.
